The temptation of buying yourself a brand-new wardrobe at the start of each season is strong, I know from experience. Especially with advertisements telling you to buy the newest trend of the season. Many of us may be facing this exact problem as we start the transition from summer to fall fashion. Luckily, there's plenty of ways to avoid unnecessary spending this season by using summer items and a few staple pieces to create fun fall looks. Follow some of these tips and you'll feel like you have a new fall wardrobe without the cost!
Midi skirts were one of the biggest trends of the summer season and one of my personal favorites. Because I have a slight obsession, I accumulated multiple midi skirts and I plan to carry them into my fall wardrobe. One super simple way to style your midi skirts for colder weather is to throw on an oversized sweater to juxtapose the dainty and feminine nature of the skirt. Then pair with your favorite sneakers or some booties!
Another staple item you may already have is a simple black maxi dress; you don't have to leave this classic item behind this fall season! Throwing on a cropped cardigan is the perfect addition to make this item fall-friendly. I got this white cardigan from Plato's Closet and it's such a versatile piece that everyone should have! Next, I opted for a pair of black mules to keep the look more sophisticated, but chunky sneakers would look great as well!
This next outfit was inspired by my favorite fashion YouTuber, Ashley (aka bestdressed). Similar to maxi dresses, you don't have to part ways with your mini dresses either! Simply layer them over some long sleeve shirts and it transforms into the perfect fall look! The other key component to this outfit is the gold-layered necklaces. Gold jewelry is an easy way to spice up any fall outfit. Lastly, to keep the look casual, I finished it off with some white sneakers.
If you have some patterned miniskirts and graphic tees from this summer, with some simple styling, you can have great fall outfits too! To start, Chelsea boots are one staple item that can make these two simple items into the perfect fall look! I also added a cropped denim jacket to make this look even more fall-friendly.
Yes, I know the age-old adage of not wearing white after Labor Day. However, since I'm from the west coast, and I don't follow this rule! Instead, I'm going to give you a fall outfit idea using white jeans (or shorts)! Simply style them with your dainty summer tanks, throw on a denim jacket, and Chelsea boots! Neither of these staple summer items have to be left behind this season!
I hope you got some inspiration from these outfits and apply some of these tips to your own wardrobe. Just remember, you don't have to buy a new wardrobe every season to stay fashionable and feel fresh! Just get a little creative with your summer pieces and you'll have plenty of new outfits at half the cost!

Summer coming to an end can be sad for summer lovers like me. But the good news is that you can now focus on being the fashionista of your school. I’ve put together four unique outfits to serve as inspiration for back-to-school styles!
For this outfit, I focused on solid basics by taking a black shirt and pairing it with vintage distressed-hem shorts. This is perfect for days when you will be on the go but still want to look cute. It’s chic, clean, and allows you to soak up those last few days of wearing shorts. For the shoes, I picked black platform slip-ons and then paired it with a slim cheetah belt to add a bit of flair to the overall outfit.
This outfit is cute and dainty but still remains on the chill side. There’s so much character in this outfit with the ruffle details of the shirt, the fringe on the jean hems, and the fur in the slides. I kept the jewelry simple with a zodiac necklace (#cancer) and paired it with some glasses. On days that your class schedule is heavy. This is an outfit that keeps you comfortable, but still cute.
Biker shorts are an essential piece that almost everyone has in their closet now. This outfit is comfy and sporty but also has feminine touches through the layering of the accessories. It’s super easy to find an oversized band tee and pair it with biker shorts. Since biker shorts are so neutral, I decide to pair this outfit with colorful sneakers to keep this look alive. Now, this is a perfect outfit for those chill days on campus!
For this last look, I paired a corduroy skirt with sporty pieces such as chunky sneakers and a men’s tee. Styling up a graphic tee is always a great option, especially on days you are looking to create an outfit from pieces already in your closet. For accessories, I felt it was necessary to layer jewelry again, considering the oversized tee feel. This outfit will definitely allow you to zip around campus.

Hey girls! Do you dread waking up in the morning for school and picking out your outfit? I know I always have a hard time picking out stylish outfits quickly in the mornings. It is most definitely a challenge for me. So in today’s post, I have three effortless outfits for back-to-school that you can create with pieces you have in your closet!
I used to hate skirts, but in the past year or so, I found this comfy black denim skirt and my life has changed! Skirts are so effortless while making your outfit look put together and thought through! Denim skirts can go with almost any top in your closet, whether it’s an oversized thrifted tee, your favorite tank, a jean jacket, you name it! I paired my denim skirt with a baby blue tank and a cropped white sweater! Lately, I have been obsessed with this staple-cropped sweater because it looks amazing with skirts or high-waisted jeans!
Next up are these corduroy pants that I just found and totally fell in love with! They are so not something I would normally wear, but I decided to step outside of my comfort zone and I ended up loving them! I think they would look amazing with a pair of chunky white sneakers, but I just pair them with my converse and a graphic tee. If these corduroy pants aren’t your thing, try a unique pair that’s more your style! Always check your local Plato’s Closet for unique finds that nobody else will have!
This last outfit is definitely what I wear most often, and that’s my favorite pair of comfy, ripped denim and a basic white tee! I also wore a pair of silver, hoop earrings to dress up the look. With classic and simple looks like this, I love adding small accessories to add more detail. I also added a black belt, with a circle buckle, to pull the look together. If it is a colder day, try pairing a cardigan or wearing an open sweater like I did! I’m currently obsessed with this vintage sweater of mine because I think it adds a lot to the look!
Thanks for reading this post! I hope it gave you some ideas or inspiration on easy and effortless looks for back-to-school!

School is quickly approaching, and as we transition from summer to fall, I wanted to show you guys some of my favorite shoe trends of the season. We all know that shoes can make or break your look, and I’ll totally be rocking all of these shoes this school year!
Right now, sneakers are the big fashion trend and it’s one of my favorite trends because it combines both comfort and fashion. For this first look, I decided to wear my favorite jeans with a black crop top and all-white Fila tennis shoes to show a cute way to style chunky sneakers while being comfortable. This trend is perfect for strutting through the hallways at school!
Here’s another style of white sneakers that can offer another look, while still following the current sneaker trend. Sneakers are always my go-to, especially my Air Force Ones. What’s unique about these is that they are a combination of sleek and chunky. If you’re ever looking for some cute, fashionable sneakers make sure to check out your local Plato’s Closet!
Another shoe trend I love is the classic black bootie! Black booties are always a safe option if you want a shoe that’s a little dressier but still comfortable! I will definitely be rocking these booties on school presentation days or on days when I want to dress up more.
The last trend I wanted to highlight is snakeskin booties. I decided to wear a heeled bootie to dress up my outfit a little more. I absolutely love this trend because it’s the perfect way to make a statement with your shoes!
I hope these trends bring you inspiration, as you're getting ready to head back to school!
As usual, summer is going by in a flash. Now that it’s August, the official back-to-school season, we can begin preparing for our return to school. While preparing for school isn’t usually the most exciting task, I’ve always looked forward to picking out new outfits to wear. It’s so fun to rock your new clothing or try new styles at school every day! I’ve compiled some cute and simple looks you can be inspired by for back-to-school shopping.
Unfortunately, some schools have strict dress codes, which can make it somewhat difficult. I’ve kept this in mind and I will provide alternate ideas in order to make some of the outfits adhere to the most conservative of dress codes!
This is a simple and chic look that you can recreate using staple items in your own closet! I just paired this black tee with ruffle details on the sleeve, along with some mom jeans. To give this look a more sophisticated feel, I added some snakeskin chunky heels that I picked up from Plato’s Closet. The key to this look is really in the details! This back-to-school season you can be super chic and stylish with simple pieces you might already own. Just picking up some statement pieces to make simple looks more exciting is an easy way to update your closet for school.
Dress Code Tip! If your school doesn’t allow sandals, then opt for a patterned sneaker. Any statement shoe will elevate your simple look!
I personally can understand that in the morning you may be rushed and don’t have time to spend picking out your outfit. This is where simple sundresses come in handy. A few cute dresses are a must-have for back-to-school! They are perfect for those days when you don’t have time or just want to throw something simple on, while still looking feminine and put together.
If dresses aren’t your style, then rompers are another easy clothing option. Similar to dresses, they are simple to throw on, while appearing as though you put a lot of time and effort into your outfit choice. In my opinion, they are probably one of the most comfortable clothing items too! Since my romper had thin straps, I layered a white tee shirt underneath to make the whole look adhere to most dress codes. You can also use this layering style underneath dresses with similar straps.
Most mornings during the school year, I truly consider just rolling out of bed and going to school in my pajamas. This outfit is a good compromise because the silky polka dot blouse was likely a pajama shirt at some point. Blouses are another practical piece for school because they are comfortable, stylish and very versatile. I paired this one with some shorts and white shoes. I also put my hair up into a clip to complete this casual, chic look.
Dress Code Tip! Instead of tying the shirt in the front, you can tuck it in. Also, if you can’t wear shorts at school, blouses pair great with jeans!
Short skirts have always been a target for school dress codes but luckily, midi-skirts are in style! They are such great staple pieces in any closet! I tend to wear more patterned skirts, such as floral or cheetah-print. I love pairing my cheetah-print skirt with graphic tees for a more casual look, and then finishing it off with some white sneakers helps add style and comfort to this look. You should definitely consider trying out a midi-skirt this back-to-school season!
I hope these outfits gave you some inspiration that you can use when preparing your own back-to-school looks at your local Plato's Closet!
