As usual, summer is going by in a flash. Now that it’s August, the official back-to-school season, we can begin preparing for our return to school. While preparing for school isn’t usually the most exciting task, I’ve always looked forward to picking out new outfits to wear. It’s so fun to rock your new clothing or try new styles at school every day! I’ve compiled some cute and simple looks you can be inspired by for back-to-school shopping.
Unfortunately, some schools have strict dress codes, which can make it somewhat difficult. I’ve kept this in mind and I will provide alternate ideas in order to make some of the outfits adhere to the most conservative of dress codes!
This is a simple and chic look that you can recreate using staple items in your own closet! I just paired this black tee with ruffle details on the sleeve, along with some mom jeans. To give this look a more sophisticated feel, I added some snakeskin chunky heels that I picked up from Plato’s Closet. The key to this look is really in the details! This back-to-school season you can be super chic and stylish with simple pieces you might already own. Just picking up some statement pieces to make simple looks more exciting is an easy way to update your closet for school.
Dress Code Tip! If your school doesn’t allow sandals, then opt for a patterned sneaker. Any statement shoe will elevate your simple look!
I personally can understand that in the morning you may be rushed and don’t have time to spend picking out your outfit. This is where simple sundresses come in handy. A few cute dresses are a must-have for back-to-school! They are perfect for those days when you don’t have time or just want to throw something simple on, while still looking feminine and put together.
If dresses aren’t your style, then rompers are another easy clothing option. Similar to dresses, they are simple to throw on, while appearing as though you put a lot of time and effort into your outfit choice. In my opinion, they are probably one of the most comfortable clothing items too! Since my romper had thin straps, I layered a white tee shirt underneath to make the whole look adhere to most dress codes. You can also use this layering style underneath dresses with similar straps.
Most mornings during the school year, I truly consider just rolling out of bed and going to school in my pajamas. This outfit is a good compromise because the silky polka dot blouse was likely a pajama shirt at some point. Blouses are another practical piece for school because they are comfortable, stylish and very versatile. I paired this one with some shorts and white shoes. I also put my hair up into a clip to complete this casual, chic look.
Dress Code Tip! Instead of tying the shirt in the front, you can tuck it in. Also, if you can’t wear shorts at school, blouses pair great with jeans!
Short skirts have always been a target for school dress codes but luckily, midi-skirts are in style! They are such great staple pieces in any closet! I tend to wear more patterned skirts, such as floral or cheetah-print. I love pairing my cheetah-print skirt with graphic tees for a more casual look, and then finishing it off with some white sneakers helps add style and comfort to this look. You should definitely consider trying out a midi-skirt this back-to-school season!
I hope these outfits gave you some inspiration that you can use when preparing your own back-to-school looks at your local Plato's Closet!

As summer comes to an end, it’s time to start thinking about going back to school. I don’t know about you, but my favorite thing about going back to school is shopping for cute, new outfits! Here are four ways that I styled my favorite back-to-school outfits, using one pair of white sneakers.
This first outfit is my favorite look! I love a comfy wrap dress! For this look, I styled a simple wrap dress with a jean jacket, a gold choker, and white sneakers. This is a perfect outfit to start the school year off right!
For my second back-to-school look, I decided to go for a little more of a sassy chic look. By pairing one of my favorite graphic tees with a cheetah print skirt, a jean jacket, and white sneakers, this outfit is perfect for making a statement on your first day!
Some days you just want to be comfortable! I love this next outfit because it’s not only comfortable, but it’s super cute too! To create this look, grab any cropped hoodie and your favorite joggers, and then pair it with some sneakers. Now you’re ready to conquer your day in style!
For my final look, I decided to grab my favorite pair of ripped jeans and I paired it with a graphic tee. Graphic tees are all the rage and are perfect tops to thrift or pick up at your local Plato's Closet! Lastly, I completed this look with my favorite white sneakers! I really love this outfit because it’s easy to pull together using just a few basic items from your closet and so cute.
Although summer is almost over, I hope these outfits give you something fun to look forward to during your back-to-school shopping!
I had the chance to go to my local Plato’s Closet for a shopping haul! One thing that I love in particular about Plato’s Closet is that you can always find trendy items in there that are from relevant and popular brands. I also know that whatever I find in the store has been handpicked, to ensure the quality of the item. So when I go shopping at Plato’s Closet, I know I will always find amazing stuff!
For my first outfit, I found this cheetah shirt from Wild Fable for only $6 at Plato’s Closet. Paired with a black mini-skirt, I decided to wear a pair of slip-on, platform sneakers to make this outfit more casual so I was ready to run around town! For accessories, I stuck to warm, gold tones. I found some cute, minimalistic hoops during my shopping trip that were only $2. My triangular sunglasses were also a great find because the lenses paired perfectly with the geometric theme and they were only $5!
After finding this deep yellow, plaid skirt while shopping, I knew I needed to have it. It was marked at $10, and not to mention the versatility it serves! I decided to pair the skirt with an off-the-shoulder white crop top and left the accessories to a simple, gold butterfly set. Since this skirt has a side tie-knot, I decided to tomboy it up! For the shoes, I went with a classic pair of all white, high-top Chuck Taylor’s!
For the next outfit, I took a distressed denim mini-skirt and paired it with a black baby-doll shirt (originally from Fashion Nova, but at Plato’s Closet for $7). This shirt has functional ties in the front that allow you to adjust the tightness, depending on how much skin you would like to show. I kept the jewelry to a minimum but accentuated my waist with this statement cheetah belt. This was also a find at Plato’s Closet marked at $6. Due to the nature of the distressed skirt feeling more casual, I wore basic leather sandals.
Last, but not least, I continued the trend of the mini-skirt with this vintage-looking, denim skirt. I played more on the feminine side by pairing it with this pink, off-the-shoulder crop top. Both of these pieces were found at Plato’s Closet, the skirt (originally from Express) for $8, and the top for only $5. For the accessories, I wore a single strand of pearls and matching heart-shaped pearl earrings. I can imagine wearing this outfit to a brunch or nice lunch, so I figured it would be cute to wear these nude, open-toed heels.

Oh and of course I can’t go anywhere without my camera. You never know when you’re going to want to capture memories!
The last thing I always make sure to have is a good book. Right now I’m reading The Sun is Also a Star! It’s the perfect summer read and it’s easy to throw in your bag.
Now you’re set! I hope you found some ideas on things to pack in your bag for your next summer adventure!
I consider Fourth of July to be the epitome of summer. Warm nights filled with laughter, s’mores, and fireworks, Fourth of July has always been one of my personal favorite holidays. While there are many traditions associated with this holiday, breaking out all of my red, white, and blue clothing is definitely one that I look forward to. In preparation for the holiday, I’ve done exactly that and put together some patriotic outfits that you can easily recreate this upcoming Fourth of July!
A star necklace is the perfect way to add a subtle and on theme detail to any outfit!
This first outfit combines some classic summer pieces: jean shorts, a tank top, and sandals. People often resort to stars and stripes for their pattern on Fourth of July, but it’s important to remember that you can still incorporate other patterns. For example, I wore a red floral print to create a more subtle patriotic look. Since my shirt was red, I chose to use blue sunglasses and a white bag (from Plato’s Closet!) to tie the look together.
This outfit is the epitome of Fourth of July. It incorporates the classic colors and even stripes! Patterned denim is a super fun way to bring a pattern into your look. You can get striped jeans or look for some with stars! Get creative when wearing a pattern this Fourth of July!
This look is one of the more subtle ones, you could wear this on a daily basis or for this special occasion. Unlike the other outfits in this post, this one doesn’t only use red, white, and blue. I decided to wear this black striped skort because it would still match the theme while toning down the outfit and allowing the red top to pop.
For this last outfit, I went with blue and white as the main colors and simply added red accessories to tie the look together. If where you live is too warm for jeans, you can easily swap them out for some jean shorts! Remember that the accessories are an important aspect of every outfit!
I hope you guys can gather some inspiration from these simple outfits! Have fun when creating your patriotic outfits this Fourth of July and don’t forget to get creative with your red, white, blue, and striped clothes!
