Today Plato’s Closet is recognized as the nation’s largest chain of teen and twenty something resale stores with nearly 500 store locations in North America.
When Tim and Denise Dabbs decided to open their own business in 2000, they wanted to find a business that gave back to the community. When they found Plato's Closet, they felt it was a perfect fit. Plato's Closet not only cares about the environment by providing a way for teens and young adults to recycle their clothing, but also gives back to the local community. Instead of sourcing their product from an overseas manufacturer, they buy their inventory directly from the people living right here in their community keeping that money home. Plato's Closet also provides teen and young adults an opportunity to find the clothing items which they see at the mall without paying the mall prices allowing them to stay trendy which helps with self esteem and self expression. They feel that teens and young adults shopping at Plato's Closet also are learning about being wise with their money. Tim and Denise are also proud of the fact that they can be a positive influence in helping develop employees and teach them basic to more advanced business knowledge. For many of their employees, Plato's Closet is their first job. They take pride and invest hours and hours in developing their staff. At any given time, Tim and Denise through Plato's Closet employ 50-70 people and over the years have employed over 500.
