Pale gowns wow at SAG Awards

A variety of pale and neutral-colored dresses dominated the red carpet at the recent Screen Actors Guild (SAG) Awards.

Actresses including Rose Byrne, Viola Davis, Julianna Margulies, Lea Michele, Tilda Swinton and Kristen Wiig all chose these muted tones for the show.

Black gowns were also spotted on some of the evening's best-dressed, including Tina Fey, Emma Stone, Stacy Keibler and Angelina Jolie.

But don't let that fool you into thinking that color simply isn't desirable when it comes to this year's formal wear. Actresses such as Julie Bowen, Sofia Vergara, Emily Blunt, Dianna Agron, Jessica Chastain and Michelle Williams all wowed in bold and bright hues.

"I go on instinct, just like anything in my life," InStyle.com reports best actress nominee Williams said about her red Valentino gown with lace accents.
It's good advice for anyone searching for the perfect ensemble for a special occasion.

Another bit of advice celebrity watchers can take away from the red carpet at the SAG Awards is that your accessories can truly make or break your whole look. Kristen Wiig's neutral-colored Balenciaga halter dress was well-received by critics, but her overall look made many "worst-dressed" lists due to her jewelry choice.

"Halter gown and choker necklace do not mix," according to the Los Angeles Times.

Those who want to mimic their favorite celebrity looks can do so for less by opting for used clothing and accessories purchased at a secondhand store, rather than paying full price.
