Golden Globe fashions to influence spring formalwear

If formalwear trends are at all influenced by the styles donned by celebrities on the red carpet, odds are those shopping for dresses this spring will see a lot of nude, light pink and taupe.

Several of the stars considered among the evening's best-dressed wore these muted colors, including Kate Beckinsale, Charlize Theron and Heidi Klum. In all, the Washington Post reports that 16 stars chose these light colors for their red carpet looks.

Angelina Jolie, who made many best-dressed lists for her gown, also chose a neutral color, but with a pop of color. Her form-fitting, white satin Atelier Versace gown featured a thigh-high slit and red accents.

Other well-recieved color choices included red (Reese Witherspoon and Stacy Keibler), plum (Emma Stone), metallic (Nicole Richie) and bright yellow (Paula Patton).

Color-blocking, which is a popular everyday choice for many, also was spotted on the red carpet. Kate Winslet stunned critics in a black and white Jenny Packham.

According to the Washington Post, there were a few other trends that may carry over into spring formalwear as well, including "mermaid-tail" gowns, which were worn by many including Julianne Moore, Tina Fey, Reese Witherspoon, Sophia Vergara and Paula Patton.

The use of headbands as an accessory was also popular. Celebs including Charlize Theron and Michelle Williams topped their looks off with sparkling headbands.

No matter what type of look you want for any type of formal occasion, shopping for dresses, shoes and accessories at stores that specialize in used clothing can help you look like a celebrity without spending a lot of money.
